The map is gorgeous and the style unique !
Glad you think so!
I'm trying a little something... I think the cities and labels were too strong and dominant, I'm experimenting with making them a bit less aggressive... Smaller labels, and a more muted color. I think I might like this better. Any thoughts?

I like this new version better.
This new label color is very legible and plays well with your current color scheme.
The old city icons were rather large. Perhaps if you scaled them down to 20%...
I like that you are showing the various ideas that you are exploring.
Sometimes it is a long and winding path...
Your new version looks fine, but I liked the labels of the cities ! They were so well drawn (the perspective aspect, was gorgeous !)
Maybe you can put the main labels back but make them smaller ? (the one that looked like castles)
Anyway, I'm glad you're moving forward with your map !
Oh, I absolutely will put the castle thingies back in there in some form, don't worry! I just didn't get that far as the night was running too long already. They most likely will be smaller than they were, but I'm not leaving them out unless they end up looking like utter rubbish -- I spent too much time making the damn things to completely abandon them
Thanks for the input, guys! Hopefully I'll have some time to get on with it this week.
Baby steps, baby steps... Added the missing cities back in, plus moving some trees around and other such little tweaks here and there.

I think I'm about done with the land for now. Now onto the final labels, and then it's off to the legend and border, I should think. Might just be able to finish this thing before New Year, after all.
That's what I call a success. Great style, Kell !
This is gorgeous Kell!
The style works great and I particularly love the way you've done all the trees! Were they all placed individually or did you create some awesome brush for them?
Can't wait to see this one finished!
Thanks for the encouragement, guys!
The trees are done by hand, but at this scale I can get away (or at least I think I can! ) with duplicating them quite a bit after I've drawn the first 200-300 or so. I do usually end up thickening the forests quite a bit once I've gotten them laid out, so yeah, each tree is definitely placed individually even if they aren't all drawn so. I'll just pick out a tree or two and start adding them to places that look too thin. It can get pretty tedious, but this is by far my favorite type of forest to make.
