After further review, I don't. I think I'm going to ditch those borders. They're too much.
Thanks John
Interesting. I'm going to have to stare at this for a while. You kept the division of the provinces with the colored borders...hmm...It does something subtle to the picture....yup...gonna have to stare at it for a while...Initially I think I like it.

Oh good. I was about to come back and tell you why it was bugging me (bugging me meaning I had to stare at it for a while). It took me a while to figure it out but I finally figured it. The style without the borders takes the map and places it sometime around 1470 AD. The borders bring that date sqarely into the 1850's to 1870's range. I think it was because of the hash marks near the borders. I'm glad you decided to change it back as I prefer the earlier style by a long shot.

So, this version has no borders at all. Maybe I should just leave them off all together? Don't know yet. At any rate, here's a little more overall progress, with added Abu banner goodness!

Yep.
It is a little bothersome that the banner label is covering the carp's eye, but that's the only thing - very minor.
Cool map with a particular feeling and atmosphere. I enjoy watching this develop.
Those mountains are really cool. I'm a big fan of this style.

This is awesome Diamond! The forests are working really well with those excellent mountains. Good color choices for the water and cities and the title is much better now.
Thanks, fellow Guildies! Your praise means a lot to me. And I'll help the poor carp see again, Chashio!
I like it without the borders. Looks great. Stylistically I think it works better here. And since this is already your second map and the first one already has borders, there really is no need for them here.
