    Default [CWBP2] License vote

Time to vote on the license for the second collaborative worldbuilding project.
We tried to consider all propositions and came up with what we think is a good license.
Voting will last for 7 days.
The question is simple: Do you agree with this license ? yes/no

    License

-Contributor: to be considered a contributor, people need to have ideas or projects submitted to the CWBP 2 or used by the CWBP 2.
-Contributors of the project can use, modify and publish material that they own. If they do publish, they just need to inform the community.
-Everyone can use, modify the material of the project for personal or artistic purposes. They can share their derivative work as long as they have the approval of the original author. But they cannot use the content for commercial purposes.

Council: Decisions concerning general aspects of the material are the privilege of the Council members. Including: legal matters, the license, general direction of the project, approval of commercial projects.
To become a council member, people need to submit at least one contribution and they need to sign in on a list
    - The site administrators of the Cartographer's Guild are also part of the Council since they are maintaining this space.
    - In extraordinary circumstances, council members can be denied of their privileges if 2/3 of the council members vote against them. But they always keep their rights on their work.
    - It is possible to amend the license with the support of 2/3 of the council members.
    - The council members take decisions by voting. The vote is made public to ensure that only council members votes are counted.
    - Votes concerning legal matters should last a full month to let the active council members sufficient time to vote. A normal vote is won with 50%+1 of the votes cast at the end of the voting period.

*Votes concerning non legal matters such as the description of different world elements and general opinion are open to every member of the Guild. The voting period should be around 3 or 4 days. Usually, a simple majority is required to win.

Once something enters the project, either an image or a full-fledged idea, it become part of the project. If the content is, for some reason rejected, it can't be used in the project or any derivative work on it without the consent of the author. The material used in the project should respect copyrights. You can't have material that is non commercial unless you have the approval of the author to do so.

Campaign setting: The main goal of the project is too create a campaign setting and to be able to publish it. Example of campaign settings: List of campaign settings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To do that, we need the contributors to agree (it’s mandatory) that their work could be used in a publication, including a commercial publication. The profits would be distributed equally to all contributors that have material in the publication. At this stage, we are not sure if this will happen but we need to ask before people commit to the project, otherwise it will become impossible to contact everyone.

To publish a project: the first step is to submit the project to the community. Even if the person is publishing her own work, the community need to be informed. In that case, it's just a formality. When the project includes more than one author, a vote is usually required. After the project is submitted, the concerned authors will need to express their approval or disapproval of the project. There are no time limit for the authors the express themselves, refusal or simply a lack of answer means it can't be published as it’s only possible to publish content to which the authors agreed.
Every publication needs the approval of its original author(s).

You need to edit the post a little: "-Contributor: to be considered a contributor, people need to submit at least one " should finish "-Contributor: to be considered a contributor, people need to have ideas or projects submitted to the CWBP 2 or used by the CWBP 2."

You need to link the wiki page you cite : List of campaign settings - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under campaign setting you are missing a word in the last sentance, it should read "...we are not SURE if this will happen..."

Thanks for pointing that. I edited the message to make it clearer but got distracted yesterday.

It was close till the end, with just one vote in difference
Well, people still have a couple of hours to vote but I doubt they will. Maybe some will notice the topic because of this message.

    Yes: Azelor, Falconius
    No: 12rounds

I think the results were pretty clear from the discussion thread. We now suffer the problems 12rounds brought up in the discussion thread, however until said problems become relevant I suggest we just move on with it. In any case we can always alter the agreement later, an option which I felt was the deciding factor in my vote.

Yea, It will have to do for now.

So, since this is accepted, nothing prevents us from mapping !

Actually, am I supposed to expect an increase of participation ?

Three votes isn't exactly awe-inspiring. A result is still a result.

Personally I'm not interested in the mapping part of the project. Instead character illustrations, story hooks etc. are what inspires me. Still a long ways to go until it's my turn to become active on the project.

Three votes is disappointing, but hardly unexpected given the overall activity in the project so far. Maybe once we have a few WIP's up people will be more interested.

I abstained and wanted the votes to be taken by people who have a stronger opinion about this than I. You will find that you guys above are in the minority generally of being people who like to create rather than to take from the site. We have >10,000 members registered of which 2000 or so log in now and again but only 10% of that are regularly contributing maps and art to the site. Therefore you will find that CWBP will only generate more interest when there are maps to take from it. You may also discover that theres never going to be a huge increase in the number of people submitting maps to it. Its likely to be more than three ! But dont expect many tens+ kind of figures.

As for the activity on the site, I am a perfect example of the 2k that aren't the 10%. I've never made a map, but I do read the sub-forums that interest me. Occasionally, I will post something, either feedback or just encouragement, but only rarely. As far as the CWBP goes, I participated in the discussions (and will continue to do so), and I plan on helping with the "plot" elements of the map, but I don't think that I'll end up claiming a plot. Under the above license, I think that I've contributed enough to be considered a Participant (although this is debatable), but unless I gain tons of mapping experience (not to mention an increase of free time in a mind-boggling order of magnitude ), I don't think that I'll ever earn a Council rank.
