Thread: Autumn Battlemap

    Wip Autumn Battlemap

Started from scratch in Photoshop. This is for a Roll20 project. Trees are from a brush shared on Deviantart, and it ended up with something I thought was quite good without too much fuss.

It's got a lovely dreamy feel to it. Could you link the tree brush you used? I like those.

    A couple of points:

    1) The grid overlies the boulder and the fence. In order to preserve the illusion that the grid is at "foot level", it should pass beneath those. I assume your grid, fence and boulder are on separate layers, so you should be able to just move the grid below the other two.

    2) It's rather low resolution. IIRC, Roll20 defaults to 70px to the five-foot-square. This is 40px. At this resolution, if your PCs zoom in during play, they're likely to start seeing JPG compression artifacts, which are ugly. They can't be avoided entirely, but upping the resolution a bit will make them less noticeable.

This is the page with the tree brush: http://xong.deviantart.com/art/anime...h-XD-531415365

Definitely a valid point on the grid, I will fix. As for the resolution, it's much higher than what's posted here and is designed for the 70px square size.

Hello! Your map looks amazing; if I may ask, how did you learn to make maps like these? I'm hoping to make battlemaps for my own campaign and love your style. I'm very much a beginner and the maps I've tried to create look flat and lifeless, so any advice or links to resources so I may learn would be super appreciated!

Hi Faelynn, obviously I can't speak for how Dumont makes maps, but there are a couple of other tutorials that may help you with that style...

Thank you ChickPea, that first one is exactly what I was looking for! I'll go through both of those

Yeah your map needs to use a custom brush in Photoshop to apply fallen leaves. It will improve the autumn theme of your map significantly. I did this in my Faeries' Fountain battlemap posted here. https://www.cartographersguild.com/s...ad.php?t=35577
