That is really fantastic. And, I would add, would make a great album cover.
Some of you may have wondered what became of this unusual pitch for a map. How was something like this even going to be mapped? https://www.cartographersguild.com/s...ad.php?t=48142
Well, this is the result. I couldn't resist sharing since the very concept behind it is something I rarely see mapped out, and the result is so pretty! Please enjoy this oddball of a fantasy microcosm for a campaign, it's something between a concept art painting and a map in the end, I feel, and something I am proud to share!

An oddball to be sure, but it's well done!
My first thought that came to mind was a layer of the Abyss, it looks almost demonic in one way, beautiful in another. This is really something.

That looks amazing! I would never have fulfilled those requirements...
Wow!!! That's awesome! Would hang that on my wall in a heartbeat!
Thank you, I agree. It would be an awesome album cover!
If you mean 'From the Abyss' abyss, given that I very recently watched it through, I would say it's not out of the question that I received visual influence from it. If you mean hell? Technically I believe it's a pocket dimension inside of hell, protected by veins from the outside but also serving to repeatedly suck souls through its machinery... in part a game mechanic to allow people to keep playing the same 'person' after setbacks, but metaphysically, indeed, it may be a kind of hell.
Took me years to be this good at client asks so don't give up on yourself just yet! You've only been in the guild for 3 years, give it a couple more and then see how you handle something with an exceptional amount of information! And thank you.
Ahh good, as it should be enjoyed. And thank you. XD

Wonderful and magical !
What a beautiful job here !
Congratulations !
Thanks, Ilanthar! There are a few different adjustment layers to get to that point, where I added individual shading aspects in different ways over top of the flat art. The trick's all in those Linear Dodge, Screen, Overlay, Hard Light, Multiply, etc layers... so many of them, including clipped to the 'factory' dungeons to give them the illusion of depth. There are... hundreds of layers on this map, lol.
Thank you, Jo! It is truly magical, isn't it? The client's ideas were wonderful to bring to life, I look forward to a future opportunity to do another 'painting map'. I haven't done many of them, as understandably they cost a fair amount of spare change compared to the traditional lines on parchment style with subtle coloring brought out from texture. Quite a bit of this is manual painting, but aspects of it were cheated too. For example, the roots are made from a repeating root pattern brush that I made last year, and then I created a clipping mask for it and painted on matching lighting and a few variations.
I think it's some of my best work from this year and hope that at least a few people will see it and be inspired to push their limits.

Hi Tiana!
This work of art ROCKS! I'm thoroughly impressed with your artistic talents and would love to buy this as a poster if I wasn't in such a dismal financial state. (Made so by a demanding cat!)
Kind of reminds me of my favourite painting, The Garden of Earthly Delights, by Hieronymus Bosch, with the different realms of represented in a tier-like structure. What is your own interpretation of it?
Again, absolutely wonderful attention to detail and choice of colours.
Peter
