Default September 2020 Challenge: The Needle

Well, I have been planning to work on perspective for a year now. All i did so far was collecting photos on my phone.

So this challenge was the kick to really try. wow, this is such hard work. If you look closely you can spot all the smears from all the erasing and trying again.

The result is clean, you can barely tell you erased anything at all. Love this so far!

The perspective points are outside the paper frame. I tucked the paper on the table and two long threads were tucked to table to where the points are, helping me to get the lines right.
Please ignore the white part in the middle, the paper will be cropped when the details are ready so it fits onto my scanner.

I do not expect to get this fully finished with color and labels and everything. It was quite a challenge to get this far.

    All feedback welcome.

Super intense! And you've managed a great result already. I for one am super excited to see the finish product, and would love to see colors, labels, and all that jazz. But even if you can't manage that all in the next couple days, at least be sure to get the basics finished before the challenge window closes.

As to suggestions, two big things come to mind for me. One is to add something around "The Needles"so that we have some context (I still don't know if these are in the air or in water). So just a bit of water or cloud texture would be great. The second suggestion is to add a main bridge (or ladder) to show how one gets off The Needles. This is, to me, important for purposes of realism, as the islands are just too small to not have a way of regularly communing with the larger world. Other than that though, great stuff!

Water is a great idea. I thought of flying islands but didnt bother about a connection to the world.

Thx for your feedback, i am happy when it gets your fantasy going.

2 days to go, i dont want to rush, will see.

I love the way you've tied the two images together, and the border also looks quite nice. I think if you can manage to add some (quickish) clouds or water ripples around the various islands, this will already be a sharp entry! And even after the current competition is ended, I do hope you'll continue with adding colors and details; this image is a great start to something wonderful, and you really should let it play itself out entirely!

Lovely linework Levtrona. This is a wonderful start to a map. In the event that this isn't finished before the deadline later tonight I hope you continue to work on it. I look forward to seeing the finished piece.

    Cheers,
