Wip [Region 1][Map 07][Location 03] Crazy Krulls Crossing

I am crazy overstretched this month so I will have to enter what I can which is a shame given that its a co-op world map.

I have been providing some base maps for Seer and Meleeguy and during that process I have been tweaking the scripts to generate the terrain from the base terrain. I dont know if Helium is entering and whether he wants to cover the Hardy Island but I am entering the map for the base terrain of this area. It should meet up with the map from Meleeguy who is doing Fenridge Castle. This is the area just to the north of that.

As is well known the fen lands are covered in marshy pools which harbor Lizard Men and other such nasties which harry the Thrublanders. So the people have taken to the hills and kept open the roads for merchant passage in order to extract tolls and other taxes or other general passing trade.

The merchant run going through Thrubmorton takes a very circuitous route if you travel from the west to the north because of the larger pools. The old road used to cut some of this off by going via Old Mere Fort and up but that road is now impassable. Now one must go right over to new Mere Fort in a gigantic loop of many hundreds of miles.

A short cut is to take a boat across the nearest land points but the path is extremely hazardous. Enter Crazy Krull and the Hard Ones. A mercenary gang who revel in decimating Lizard Men. Very skillful, well equipped with the finest or magical weapons and experienced, these men never lose against normal attacks. They take several long ships across the inlet and escort merchant trains from Hardy Point to Hawker Point and vice versa. Both of these points on the map are essentially uninhabited and are the last safe points on the road before its advised that protection is needed.

So this entry is for a region, one of the two small towns of barely any significance and a road of about 100 miles which is about half (the interesting half) of the total journey between the two points. Whether I can actually complete all of that remains to be seen...

I also hope you finish it Red. Your rendering is looking incredibly cool. Your tireless support for those mapping areas in the Fens has also been very cool. Fens maps definately get the most "area backup" and you are probably going to find it becomes a very popular place to map. Great work.

Here is Hardy Point. C&C's welcome as always.

The 6 hut like shapes are stacks of reeds and twigs. If the village gets ambushed by lizard men at night then archers with flaming arrows can fire into them and set them alight. The light from them should help pick out the lizard man shapes as well as blind their sensitive darkvision. Its a moderately fortified village but would not sustain a heavy assault without the help of the Hard Ones to protect it. As such its not permanently inhabited by anybody outside of the mercenary gang. It does not have anything of too much value in it. It's more of a gathering point for the merchant train before meeting up with the gang or setting off.

The Wyvern tower does not have a permanent set of Wyverns. This tower is used for lookout and for accepting visiting Wyverns with messages.

Krull has his own Wyvern - normal sized, black and capable of being ridden - its name is Brokus Warclaw. Its not kept at Hardy Point tho.

Edit -- Actually I might as well include the inside of the hut here too. This is a standard hut interior from the package but just for easy of play here it is. The huts are just for merchant accomodation. Not very plush but functional as is everything on this journey.

I done some higher res zooms of the area around Hardy Point and of the part where they launch the boats from. It does not show up so well on a pic here tho.

I have also done this for DeathChaser Fen for which the road passes above on its way to Hawker Point so ill include that pic now.

So now I only need to do Hawker Point map to complete this challenge.

Just pottering about so I knocked up a rough portrait of the man. When merchants meet him he would likely be wearing leather armor covering that strange bubble like necklace...

At last, Crazy Krull has a face. Its very cool that Ansium is starting to acquire some notable personalities. Nice artwork too Red. More hidden talent. Can you dance and sing really well too?

I used to go to these 'life' classes - well, not so much class as just set up and get on with it. Was alright, but never really good at it - not like some of them who turned up but it was fun. I think its easier to draw something thats in front of you and just copy it than trying to draw from imagination.

    Oh... and I don't dance...

    ever !

Not even on my wedding day !

Which is why even the masters tend to use models or lots and lots of reference. I'm looking forward to getting into a regular schedule of life studio drawing when I go back to school. The only way to get better is to practice, and I'm gonna need lots if I ever hope to live out my dreams.
