Just realizing that this year we'll be crossing the Delaware as well as the Susquehanna. Which to people prefer as a river to go over on the way to grandmother's house?
Every year, the week of Christmas, my mom's side of the family convenes and my grandmother's house, in the sticks on the eastern bank of the Potomac. For my mom, sister and me, this means crossing the length of Maryland, from east to west (in doing so, going over the Susquehanna River and through the wooded roads of the Blue Ridge Mountains, hence the title).
I started with an existing roadmap of the region, found here:
https://www.ezilon.com/maps/united-s...road-maps.html
So far I've traced the land and water as a base, and marked Nanna's house with a black dot. I'll use the roads on the original map layer to map out the route, and possibly crop it a little, since there's a lot of space to the south and west that isn't relevant. I'm thinking my final upload will probably be after I get there, with pit stops labeled with little anecdotes or whatever.

Welcome to the challenge. This is a lovely idea for a map, and you're off to a good start. Coastlines look great.

Thank you! I can't take all the credit for the coastlines of the Chesapeake -- they're beautiful to begin with.
I added the route, plus the woods, with some help from Google Earth for placement and texture.

From the map, I assume you'll be crossing at the Delaware Memorial Bridge instead of one of the Philly bridges. (Why go through Philadelphia if you don't have to?)
I like suspension bridges, but the traffic on the Delaware side can get congested, although bridge traffic is pretty easy.
(I worked a mile south of that bridge and drove that area to and from work for a number of years.)
I used to drive over the Susquehanna every time I went to and came back from Wisconsin and I never could get excited about crossing that river.
So I guess my vote would be for the Delaware Memorial Bridge.
Edit: You ninja'd me!
Great start Sam welcome to the challenge!

But yeah, I'm going to cross both. I'm just still deciding which will be marked with a little icon saying "over the river".
Any updates on this for us?

Yes! I've added a key and some markers along the trip. I'm not crazy about the black and white on the markers, but this is it with everything in place, anyway.
