Thread: Everantha [commission]

    Map Everantha [commission]

Done in Manga Studio and PS
This was a private commission done recently for a client that wanted a mountain city with a more middle eastern building structure.
Somewhat desert, definitely arid. Only a few streams running through the city, with some under ground water ways.

They specifically asked for on entrance gate to the city. I sort of gave them two; one high and one low, but both in the same place.
I had been wanting to make some terraced roofed buildings for a while and this one came up just before the Archensheen commission, so it proved to be a good lead up.

I was tempted to do some sort of antiqued background or stained aged texture...
But, i just left it the original white which does look nice and clean.
    Cheers, J

Edit - had to move this as the thumbnail scraper was picking up the sketch, instead of the map
I think this one took two or three days, can't remember.
Well, plus a bit of one day to do some concept sketches.

    Concept sketches are fun.

That is beautiful, J! You always manage to put in so much unique detail to let the viewer wander through happily, and yet it's also so neat and clean.
Aside from the main feature of the map, I really like how you did the surrounds - setting the city into the page and landscape with those clear/soft topo lines.
    So nice.

    Next beautiful town from J.E.
Is there an auto rep button somewhere? I would assign it to your threads

Btw. Do you draw your latest cities by hand and scan them, or is it digital from the start ?

Amazing map again John! The style reminds me of Archensheen, is it related?

Can't rep you at the moment, but I'll try to remember to do it later.

Thanks Chashio This was an interesting map to work on.
The topo stuff is not quite as integrated as I had hoped, but still nice.

    Thanks so much Voolf
I do often sketch a city and then scan it in.
This one is based on that little pencil sketch.
Scanned in and then drawn all over again in PS.. then Manga Studio, as PS was giving me trouble.

I actually did do practice to try to draw things faster.
I did some city maps just to try to get to the one day city map.
I did succeed, but there are limits to how detailed it can be.

    Thanks and no worries Dan
Yes. I drew this one for a client just before doing the Archensheen map.
It was actually all the work on the Guild city that got me wanting to do some terraced roof buildings.
Then this client came out of nowhere and wanted that very thing.
Then the 2C Gaming map followed shortly after, which was a stroke of luck and timing.
