I've only recently became interested in cartography (yesterday) but I realized how much I enjoyed it. I'm an aspiring author, so maps will be very helpful.
Some facts about me:
My name is Hayden.
I live in Alaska.
I love to write.
I'm a horrible artist. One of many reasons I joined.
I'm otherwise a very boring person who spends half their life buried in a book or typing when all the other people have fun. I'm not going to leave on a sappy note, so I'll just say this: I'm very glad I joined, and I know I'll have fun here.

If you're just getting started, I'd suggest you head for the Tutorials area and work through a couple of mapping guides to see how you go. You may surprise yourself! This comment is a good starting point, and there are downloadable tutorials here. You may perhaps find this tutorial helpful.
