Hello everyone, I am a newb here and am having some trouble navigating. Guess I should look at a map, eh? I was wondering if there is a section here that shows examples of peoples' compass rose drawings. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. No pun intended. Leatherstocking 419

Chick, thank you for the reply. I have made a few on my maps, but they are not the elaborate, beautiful ones I see on other maps. I really like seeing the old mariner maps and their compass roses, some are works of art by themselves, let alone the maps they are on. Thanks for the direction. Leatherstocking 419
There are a few cool compass creator effects you can download to GIMP.
I am not sure where I found the one I have, but it is essentially a vector creator and you can choose the amount of points, etc.
Just google "Compass-Rose effect GIMP". it should turn up results, but no promises
Cheers

Check out the Mapping Challenge Archive way back in August 2007. There was a compass rose challenge that turned out some nice work. In fact, RobA's entry wound up in several smartphone apps. Here's the voting thread, which contains links to all the entries: http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=802

Thanks Mdigardsormr for the link, but I did not see any images in the posts. I am a newb here, so it most likely is something I am doing. Thank you though for responding. So, is GIMP is a computer program for map making? I do all mine with pencil, pen and ink. Kind of old school, but they are definatley one of a kind. Thanks again.

Hi Leatherstocking,
In the case of Challenges, you have to look in the Challenge Archive for the entries around that date. I found the ones for that challenge on page 87 of the archive (by looking for the date), here
