common map keys

Hi

I had a look through mapping resources, can't seem to find this, but I'm looking for a list of common map keys - terrain types, forests, plains, desert, marsh land, etc.

an indefinite list would be good of all the types of terrain you can get as there may be stuff which I don't know about which might be interesting to add.

I've got the Earth book, ( highly recommend it BTW) and here's a list from the index as the kind of thing I'm looking for but its more of an overview - just wondered if anyone discovered ( or has made ) a key reference, link etc ???

If you mean for regular topographic maps they vary by map maker but the USGS ones are here.

well it's good that they vary from map maker to map maker- means I dont have to worry about it to much, though I'll use those USGS ones particualry things like boundary markings which I wasn't looking for but will help emormously.
