    Wip Gardenoor (WIP)

My first commission map, I just completed the line work and the labeling. Next I will add coloring and shading.

    Map copy.jpg

I am aiming to make it something like a previous map I made: http://fantasy-worlds.weebly.com/upl...hade_color.jpg

    Any tips or advice?

Having my file overwritten isn't fun. I really should have had a backup. Luckily I found an older version and only needed to redo the text, borders, farmland and a few other small things. The farmland was definitely the thing that would take the longest, so I was dreading having to redo it. However, with the discovery of the pattern stamp tool I saved hours of work.
I really disliked the forests because it was supposed to be a map at an angle, but the forests looked top down, so I redid the forests. They look a bit better in my opinion.

Next I'm onto the shading and colour.

Looks nice! Sucks to loose the file, but the forests indeed turned out better the second time. The farmlands should show the same perspective too in my opinion, though I don't know how well that'd work with the stamp tool...

Thanks! I agree with you on the farmland.. I'm not sure what I can do about that, I'll try to figure something out. I'm going to see if I can make the lakes look at a bit of an angle too.

I've been experimenting with shading and colouring, mostly not satisfied with anything yet. What do you think of these forests? I would turn down the saturation a bit on them.

Decided to postpone the forests and work on the shading and colouring for the mountains first.

    Forests basically done now.

I haven't coloured the northern mountain rage yet. My mom said she thinks the mountains are too blue and the forests are too tall compared to the mountains, so basically the mountains aren't tall enough. I think I agree with her on the second one, I could try to make my mountains taller on the next map I make, but does anyone else think the mountains are too blue?

Forest are very nicely done, but they seem a little large compared to the mountains.

I believe it's the shading, that makes them look as if they stand taller than some of the smaller mountains... But that's nothing that can't be fixed!

I don't know, I kinda like how big the forests are, gives a really nice fantasy feel. Love the colors too, such strong tones are unusual.
