    Default Febrary 2016 Challenge: Numenor

This thread by Redleg ( http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ad.php?t=33138 ) pushed on a long-hidden part of my brain and squeezed out a desire to do something. A few hours later and I have this:

It still needs decent labels (comic sans ensures eventual replacement) and marks. I may also change out the color layer for something more representative.

    All comments and suggestions welcome.

Nice start! The only thing that immediately jumps out at me is that the central mountain, Meneltarma, doesn't look that big. I might be misremembering, but isn't it supposed to be the largest mountain on the island? The range in the north look more prominent right now. Not sure if that's something that can be fixed?

As for the comic-sans labelling, em, no comment!!

That's great work for just "a few hours later"!

I've gotten better at the landscape production and final assembly (the introduction of the river flow map, ambient occlusion map, and V2 shader certainly didn't hurt any). Sadly, it's still the non-Wilbur parts that do me in.

I just looked at the time stamps on the original production flow:
    5:15 PM downloaded source map
6:25 PM saved masks Photoshop file
7:24 PM saved out masks as basis for Wilbur production
8:30 PM saved out elements for assembly in Photoshop
11:12 PM saved out the first draft

So that's about an hour to bang out masks, about an hour to produce the terrain in Wilbur, and a couple of hours to assemble all of the elements (including a fruitless search for a good font, adding the fonts, "creating" that crappy border, picking colors, and all of the rest of the usual Photoshop work). Today's final touches were about twenty minutes total onto the time. So roughly four and a half hours from start to finish as far as working time goes. About 9 days on the calendar...

I think that I'm going to call this one final. I redid the coloring a bit, added extra snow on Meneltarma, and changed the font to something elfy-looking (the font was probably a bad choice, but I think that it just edges out Comic Sans).

This time for sure! (numbers on the scale, rebalanced things across the bottom)

I always get the feeling that it's an ooze man doing a jump while ice skating...
