    Post ISO Mountains Symbols

As I noted here and here, I now present the first of several mountains/hill icons I plan to make for symbol based mapping programs (in png format). I plan to try to post up 1-3 symbols a day over the next few weeks until completion. I plan to create 3 different color schemes, brown, white and grey for the mountains.

I will also add a zip file which will contain a running total of all the symbols as I complete them in addition to directly embedding them, which I will include in this post.

EDIT: as noted by my sig, these symbols are covered by the Creative Commons License. Please give attribution (and a link back to the Cartographers guild!!!) if you use them and they may not be used in commercial projects without prior consent.

Attached is the running Zip file.

Ok, so a bit later than I had hoped.. but here is the first update. I banged these out this AM. I also figured out a slightly better way to do this to reduce the amount of work, so these three mountains are different colors, but all use the same smudge overlay for the shadows and the same outline shape, with minimal changes. Two of the mountains (brown and grey) have a third lighter color on the Eastern slopes for a bit more variety.

End result is that after I made the smudge layer once, I just changed the underlying base color and made a few tweaks and I had a copy of the mountain with totally different color scheme.

EDIT: Running zip file has been added to the original post.

Oh... and please give me feedback, especially those that might use symbol based mapping programs. I don't want to spend a lot of time if no one will fine them useful. Also, if anyone wants, I can also create GIMP brushes out of these.

I really like the look of this set--they're a lot more ridgey than the first mountain. I couldn't really say as to whether I'll use them or not. If I start a project where they'll fit, I'll certainly come back for them, though.

Christmas updates. I also went back to the original 3 mountains and added a version with snow capped peaks. Not counting the original mountain, this brings the total to 10, with 5 copies of the same (or very similar shadows) mountain shape in different colors.

They look pretty cool. Set 2 is a little awkward looking, too top heavy at the tip.

Feedback: I love these. I'll have to come back and swipe them for when I map Storlak (another world in my universe).

Very nice. I like the way this is going. The end result should be a gimp image hose of these for easy painting.

Yea.. that was my final idea also! Once I get the sets finished, I will rearrange by color (the current sets are just to make sure I save in the right places) and put all those of the same color into a set and make a hose of it also.
