Default Sept 2019 Challenge: Autumn in the Mountains

Sept 2019 Challenge: Autumn in the Mountains

Living here in the NorthEast, one of our Fall pastimes is going for a drive up into the mountains to see the Fall Foliage. It is pretty spectacular everywhere in New England but up in the White mountains it can be truly amazing.

My map is a fantasy version of a climate similar to New England.

More trees added, some color changes.

7 hours and several hand cramps later I think it is almost finished. I got in a lot more trees, some coloring around the shoreline, some human habitation and a border that I think needs some leaves in the corner. Now it is time for bed. I have some office work due Thursday and a D&D convention this weekend (aptly named Applecon because it is fall apple picking season in Maine). I will take another look at this next week and see if it needs something else. Comments welcome.

Thanks Chickpea, color is what autumn is all about!

Thanks, I made a 1.5 inch rust colored border and then using the copy tool I pasted in a strip from a photo of foliage in the Smoky Mountains. Coincidentally, when I came into my office today I realized that the calendar beside my desk is a photo of the same exact view of the mountains, NewFound Gap to be precise.

    I love that frame.
Now if you could get some of those brighter colors into the trees on the map.
And maybe some of the brighter yellow colors that sugar maples, birches and aspens often have.

I can't change the tree brushes, but I can increase the color saturation of the whole map.
Original on the left, brighter colors on the right. What do you think?

The trees look a lot better to me.
A veritable riot of autumn color!

Could you have the trees in a separate group (layer|folder|file) and just modify the saturation for that group?
(Probably a lot of work and if it doesn't throw off the colors on the rest of the map, probably not worth the effort.)
