    Default Twin Seas, Twin Suns

I haven't posted a WIP map in... years? Wow. Anyway, this is a hot, mostly arid region, with two smallish saltwater seas, the remnants of a once-larger ocean. I'm drawing this all freehand on my tablet and I'm not sure which direction I'm going yet. This is a third of full size. I'll try and do some lore-dumps as I go; I've got some ideas for this place.

These coastlines are a lot more fast and loose than I usually do, but I kind of like them. There will be probably three major mountain ranges, and I'm thinking the area directly south of the seas is an arid semi-grassland with some seasonal rivers and lakes, populated by nomadic tribesmen and their flocks of terror birds.

I look forward to seeing your process. I've always wondered how you make your maps, so detailed and so precise !

Well I don't know about precise ha ha, but thanks! The basic layout is all done, and I roughed in some mountain chain locations and some tentative colors.

I decided to do the mountains using DEMs with a color overlay matching the land and a simple bevel.

Promising work, Diamond! Are the terror birds domesticated like cows or more like caught in the wild?

I'm thinking both - the domesticated variety is a bit smaller and much tamer (although they do train some for warfare), and their wild cousins are larger, meaner, and smarter.

Man, you are a master in the use of this relief style ! Love the coastline too What level of detail you plan on adding ? Up to forest areas or are you going directly geographic with settlement ?

Swamps for sure, hopefully forests if I can figure out a way to do it in a way that looks good with the relief. It will likely be some variation of that forest pattern that I always use (thanks Ravells, wherever you are!):
