Default Vael Vaenar - my own D&D world

    Hello, Guild!

With this thread I want to do something new for myself - publish not a final map, but a journey to finish. I wanna do it to motivate myself to draw faster and to focus on a single map, not a group of projects. And because my D&D group want to see a world they play in.

I drew first version in 2014-2015 using mouse and some premade mountain brushes and i thought - wow, I'm so great at this! Yeah, sure you are buddy.

I drew new version of a map in 2016 with my first graphic tablet and it look just ridiculous for my now taste. I mean look at these rivers, Jesus:

I wanted to start to draw a new version for a long time, but I always thought my skill wasn't good enough to pay my world a justice it deserves. But you have to start somewhere (And I think I got pretty good at this map drawing stuff)

So here some progress on a new version drawn with Procreate on iPad. It's pretty big map and in b&w it looks messy and cluttered, but it will be great in a color version.

Would love to hear your opinions and critique!

Wow, a huge improvement! It's amazing to see how people's skills can develop over the course of a few years. Your 2016 version looks very angular hahaha

Your new version looks amazing. The linework is spot on. I love your spikey mountains and bushy forests.
    Great stuff

Somewhere dark and rather dangerous...and also inhabited by these confounded mosquitoes.

I kind of like the name "Sea of Skulls". Or is it "turtles?" Kind of a double entendre, there- I may have to steal that. I assume you're going for a slavic motif?

Thanks! I would love to see final version myself, hehe. After all those years imagining it

It's Море Черепах = Sea of Turtles. It's kind of similar words in russian - skull = череп, turtle = черепаха.
My world is mash between D&D settings, my own lore with some elements of steampunk, I think Eberron closest thing that come to mind, nothing slavic except some flavor in some instances.

Feel free to steal any name you like

    Default Some progress

    Hello, Guild

I made some progress on my map. I'm focusing on a countries my D&D players exploring right now, so that's why I'm so inconsistent with details I have drawn.

Usually I draw in this order - coast line, mountains, rivers, forests, cities, points of interest, waves. But this time I have to change my flow and it's a bit of a nuisance. Anyway I'm happy with progress I'm making :)
