    Map Book of Challenges

Around 2002 Wizards of the Coast produced a little book called "Book of Challenges". It was just a book full of puzzles and encounters that could be dropped into a game. I am starting a little project of creating the virtual maps to go with some of those challenges. This first one was titled "Pool of Endless Froglings" I also worked up the puzzle piece that is embedded into each of the four doors in the room. If you have the book this might be useful, if not the maps can still be used for other things. Feedback welcome.

OMG, I remember this one. If you've got a pretty smart group, it's no problem really, but if they get stuck, they can be in trouble fast.

My favourite was the capstan room and I used a version of it in a Naga Temple in an L5R campaign.

    BTW, great job!

Cool. I think I'll take capstan on next. Its a great book, I wish Wizards had produced more of them.

    Map Capstan Water Trap

Here is the Capstan Water Trap we talked about. I know these maps are not as nice as others posted on the site, but as a DM my focus is on balancing apperance, functionality, and time. I run too many games to spend hours and hours on a single map. I hope these pass muster.

    Map Dark Water Trap

Another map from the Book of Challenges. The size of the map in the book differs slightly from this one.

Good work, it would be nice if the maps were larger.

    Thanks,

Big in what way? You mean bigger in terms of room size or bigger in terms of pix? I'm using GIMP and have the grid set at 50 pix by 50 pix. What size would be better?

Nice maps meek. Bogie means 100 pixels x 100 pixels per grid square, and I agree with him. If you are making a very large map (say 30 squares across) than you can reduce it to 50x50 but otherwise using 100x100 is better.

Thanks for the advice. Future maps will be at 100 x 100 pixels.

    Map Displacer Beast Maze

This is just a basic hedge maze. The challenge places the maze underground, created by an evil druid. Being underground, I gave it a dirt floor. There is a wall or scaffold under the ivy so people in the maze can't just hack through easily. The wall can be climbed or walked on with some appropriate skill. The second map has some simple gray boxes to indicate secret passages. I increased the size of this map, and ended up with a file that was too large to post! I didn't realize how large the maze was until I finished. So, these are saved as jpg instead of png files.
