    Default The Caravel 'Sepiolite' | GE

    Hey =)

    This is a secret hiding place for the maritime Cult of Numinoru.

    This one was done as one of two isometric maps for the Havena-Box / Map-Set for 'The Dark Eye' 5th ED earlier this year. I really liked working on that box, it felt more experimental than I thought to go away from landscape cartography to focus on more detailed maps. Kept the color palet somewhat mysterious as the last light of the day hits the sunken western part of the city.

    No 3D involved, it was done completely by hand.

    EDIT: Fun fact - Meerschaum (Sepiolite) is actually a word borrowed from German that is used like Brezel or Sauerkraut in English as well. Who would have thought? :D

    Hope you like this one, I'll post the other one soon. =)
    Best wishes, Steffen

    You'll find the other one here.

    I love cutaway maps, as they remind me of references in encyclopedias. This one is no different, and nice details on the matching inset. Amazing work!

    I adore the colors on this one, the background with the subtle brushstrokes is just perfect! Amazing hues. The map itself is clear and informative, easy to read and pleasant to look at. Wonderful piece, good job!

    Wonderful work, Steffen. Kellerica sums it up best, I think: I also really like the gentle background, and I think the lighting on the upper part of the ship is really evocative.

    @Megasploot: Thank you! Yeah, I like those, too. But sometimes they are hard to make. =)

    @Kellerica: Wow, what praise, thank you!

    @Wingshaw: Thanks! There is a second one that is very similar in color, upcoming probably tomorrow.

    This is such a well thought out and realised map, I'm in awe!
    I recently spoke with the translator/publisher for a dutch version of the Dark Eye at a convention, and I hope this will make it into that edition

    Thank you, Rochnan! I assume it is very likely, if it gets a Dutch version, that this will be included in the aligning product. =)

    You are right, my job here is done ;P *joking* To explain: It is the skull of a monstrous deep-sea creature of the cults god. They split the jaw and build an altar in its mouth to worship him with candles, pleas and they even put a little statuette of him on the skull, letting him throne over all that lives below.
