Pretty sweet stuff.
A short summary what the map is about:
A medieval world.
An asteroid broke up in the atmosphere and one of the main continents was bombarded with burning shards that shattered the lands.
Some of them were burning with a turquoise flame and the survivors later found a turquoise, salt-like substance at the impact sites.
The substance is solvable in water and while being corrosive and poisonous in high concentrations, not all of those who came into contact with it died instantly. Some came into contact with just the right concentration level and developed supernatural abilities before they perished.
Of course the substance was carried away by the ocean currents and many animals died. It was carried ashore to lands that weren't hit by the shards.
Soon weird magical creatures appeared.
After the initial chaos, the surviving powers tried to gain control of the mining sites and it became a dangerous but potent and expensive trade good.
Sages started refining the turquoise substance to gain access to magical abilities.
But I digress.
The map tries to show the ocean currents that carry away coastal and underwater deposits of the substance.
It also tries to show areas with higher and lower concentration in the water.
It is currently still a work in progress and is done in Photoshop.

If the radiance of a thousand suns was to burst at once into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One...I am become Death, the Shatterer of worlds.

Let me correct Ascension on that
Awesome!
Can't rep you anymore, but I like this map even better than the first map you posted. I can now see where Gryphon Island is located
Check out my City Designer 3 tutorials. See my fantasy (city) maps in this thread.
Gandwarf has fallen into shadow...
Looks like it could've come right out of a NASA satellite photo. Wunderbar!

I was wondering if that's how you did it.

Simply amazing. Rep'd
Great stuff.
Nice - you have just booked an appointment with Mr Repping Staff.
I like the coast stuff and the sea. The higher ground seems a bit flat and featureless tho. Its as tho you had a great height map DEM but it got clamped at some max height. Still - its pretty awesome all the same.
I was thinking along these lines:
There are some areas of the former Highlands still intact, mostly in the "High Holds" lands. The corrosive substance ate away a good portion of the lands and turned much of the Highlands into separated plateaus.
But that was just my train of thought.
Good to hear about someone else's first impression.
Thanks for letting me know.
