Okay I'm officially in. I jumped in with only very rough idea of what I want. Based around an eclipse. I'm winging it as I go - I haven't mapped in like 5 years, so it's still coming back to me. But I'm having fun!

Photoshop

Filter > Add Noise (Gaussian)
Filter > Stylize > Wind (Stagger) - run this a couple times for greater effect.
Image > Adjustment > Levels - to focus on the black lines.

Mask as needed...
