Now THAT is a damn good idea!!!
So in trying to make a prophecy into a map I realized that many of the elements could be interpreted as symbols, or in this case the national symbols of some fantasy countries. If you've ever read Leviathan or seen some old WW1 or WW2 propaganda maps you'll probably know what I'm talking about. If not, check out the map for the Leviathan book series because as maps go it's one of my all time favorites.
Problems arise in the fact that I have no artistic ability, so I took it upon myself to try to emulate some medieval marginalia.

So here's the BW WIP, next step will be adding colour. Hopefully I can keep a medieval feel to it all, although I lack colouring skills. We'll see where it goes

What a clever interpretation of the prophecy!
Wait, no artistic ability? Lack of the colouring skills? All I see is a very beautiful map, can't wait to see it finished!
This is a fantastic concept!
"We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams"
Thanks! I thought it was original enough to warrant a full challenge piece
Admittedly I may err on the side of being too dismissive, but it's because I can only really imitate simple art. Do some searching around and you'll find some similar looking characters, not the same but they're my main references. Thanks for the compliments though, hopefully I can follow through with the colouring.
Thanks!
I played around with some colouring and text this weekend, so I think I'll carry more in this direction. Biggest roadblocks are determining the colour of the dragon and lion, and trying to determine whether I want the border coloured or not.

Quick 'lil colour update, not really an updated WIP. Trying to figure out colour vs texture.

That's looking really stellar. The color gives it so much more depth and visibility.
Thanks! I hoped that'd be the case.

I think this is the final colouring, time to add labels.
That's such an interesting idea! Last year I read "On the Map" by Simon Garfield and I found the short chapter about this kind of maps fascinating.
I love the composition of your latest WIP - the new coloring of the border is beautiful.
I'll have to read that, sounds very interesting. Colour choice is not something I pride myself on, so I'm glad you like it!

Here's the latest with text added.
And since I can't decided here is the one with blue water for whatever reason. I suppose I'll have to chose by Wednesday but for now I'm uncommitted.
