Default Jan / Feb 2015 Lite Challenge: An Old Naval Chart

Amidst the private journals of an infamous French privateer, an old sea chart is found. And what should it mark but the lost treasure of the privateer in question. This map could be the key to eternal riches... or your demise.

Anyway, enough with the theatrics, here's what I've got so far:

    It's OK, we like theatrics!

Nice border and background, can't wait to see what you do with the island!

Okay, I've added gridlines, a compass rose, a riddle, rivers, and some mountains.

Okay, I've completely redone the mountains and hills - one of the problems with Sea Charts is that that don't have topography on them, so I tried to make it look like the mountains and hills were inked on with another hand. Let me know if I've succeeded. Oh, and the riddle is less stupid now.

Ha, thanks! But the riddle is not how to find the treasure on the island, it's how you get to the island.

So that island 'where sea lions bask' is the starting point. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Great start, and kudos for jumping into a challenge so soon after joining the CG.

If you are looking for some constructive criticism, I'd say the green outline to the landmass draws too much attention to itself, at present. Why not drop the opacity on it a little bit?

I really like the compass rose and the sea-chart feel to it.

I've darkened the outline of the coast to fit better with the rest of the 'ink', and dimmed the green a bit. I'm struggling with the trees though - I just can't get them to mesh with the rest of the map. Ugh.

Finally got some terrain in that I don't hate!

Do you guys prefer it with or without the added terrain?

The map's starting to look finished - not sure what else to add beyond some tweaking and the like, so I'd really appreciate any input on it.

Oh, and see if you can find the treasure. I promise it's possible.
