Thread: The Celestial Shoal

    Map The Celestial Shoal

This was created for a Scrolls of Guild challenge we ran at the end of 2019.
It depicts a collection of islands that sit at a dimensional nexus.

The Celestial Shoal is a meeting place between many streams into the Alter, and of various layers of the otherealms.
This is a strange and wild place, borne of unique magics and unusual forces.
Many things find their way onto the islands, and at times, on into the waking world.

Travelers, and other beings, slip between worlds, and planes of existence, through locations like this one.
It's a dangerous place, physically and mentally as well.
It touches realms both upper and lower, as well as those inner and outer.
It's best to seek out a skilled and experienced captain who knows the chaotic flows.

Captains versed in the myriad flows can be found at various ports.
Some tend to attract those skilled in a certain destination, so a traveler may need to seek the right port relative to where they hope to go.
But not all captains are to be trusted. So beware travelers. ;P

I tweaked it a bit after the challenge because I noticed a few things I had forgotten.

There's an unique atmosphere on this map, something mysterious, whimsical maybe... The more I see the map, the more I feel I could fall into it and be trapped in the mist.
A stunning border, an incredible texture... What to say... splendid !

I think the decreased light effect is working pretty well. The piece is still very eerie and absolutely stunning !

I have been working with some dark pages for another comm so this felt really bright while I was working on it, oddly enough.
One of the hazards of staring at lcd screens all day.

As I previously said, I love the color palette on this one.
And the frame and map are splendid - as per usual.

A city named 'Junk', that's the one I'd like to see drawn up. Stunning work as always, J.E.

    You may get to.
I have the bones of one sketched up.
Now I just need a huge block of time.
Or some new less involved style of city map.

Hehe, yeah, there are several ways to view that.
I was caught between whether it should be like a Chinese junk or western junk.
    Maybe some of both.
