    Wip Havasupai Falls

    One of the most beautiful places in the Grand Canyon, that nobody knows about. Wanted to do a desert Oasis and came across this area located on an Indian Reservation in Arizona. The water is turquoise blue and lot of cliff jumpers. 10 mile hike in and 10 mile hike out or helicopter.

    Some linework and just a touch of water so far. The cliffs are pretty interesting feature.

    Was going to enter this months challenge, but didn't feel it was Fantasy or Sci Fi enough.

    Wow, that photo is so gorgeous that it almost doesn't look entirely real!

    Your map is looking good already, even with just the linework alone. Really interested to see this one develop.

    Beautiful linework already. And a beautiful location!!

    If I ever go to the Grand Canyon I want to hike there (I'll use your map when I get there ). It looks gorgeous!

    You have to reserve a spot at least a year in advance since you most likely have to spend a night in a campsite - there are tours by the local indian tribe (this tribe makes most of it's income from tourist) - there are a couple other water falls along the way too.

    A fantastic idea (and fantastic enough for entering the challenge in my view ) and a really promising start snodsy. Your local top-down maps are always great inspiration and i bet this map will be too when finished. It's also really awesome to see the development of your linework from map to map. I particularly like the "tongue-like" elements in the cliffs, they give the landscape a very lively feeling. The parchment background is also a good choice in my view (well, i just love them ) and it reminds me of max' wonderful "Th'mecan" map. Hmm...maybe one shouldn't compare too much...hope you see it as a well-meant praise, as the comparison was intended. Keep up the great work!

    Thank Abu for the kind words, any comparison to max is a great honor, I'll have to look up that map, I probably have it saved in my inspiration folder somewhere.

    Thanks for noticing the Line work, this may be my first map that I do all the line work prior to coloring, I couldn't do it before, since I had no idea what I was actually doing - needed to see it somewhat finished in areas to make sure I was heading in the right direction, but now after doing a few of these top down map, I'll feeling a little more confident in that it's going to turn out alright.

    The parchment is also layered with with a ground pattern texture, which I thought came out really nice. Thanks again.

    That's wonderful and I can only agree with Abu about the comparison with Max's Th'mecan. I'd just suggest you post a slightly lower resolution picture, it would give the line work a less blunt aspect, I dunno if it's the thickness or the contrast between black and the background but I find the cliff's edges a little too present (badly said sorry). I realize it sounds like a critic but it ain't ! Its a wonderful piece.

    Put an alien petroglyph in the corner and poof! Instant fantasy!

    Thomrey;

    I agree with you on the contrast, maybe even an 80% transparency may help or not black, but a very dark brown instead could maybe help and then coloring might as well, so I'll keep it in mind as I progress, and I actually want the critique, it what makes it better and the reason I like to post the WIP to get good feedback, so in my case, dont' shy away, I have thick skin. .

    Waldronate, thanks for the fantasy vibe!, I'll put one in, which you'll have to look for.

    It's a splendid start Snodsy! I'm impressed by your line art. You should have joined the challenge, it would have been a great one to compete with. Anyhow, I'm sure it's gonna be a terrific map when finished.
