Post "The Shadow Out of Time" Expedition Map

This is my first mapmaking project, a 1930's era line map from H. P. Lovecraft's classic story "The Shadow Out of Time". It's based on a 1916 map of Australia and was created using Illustrator.

For a first attempt I think it came out pretty well, but I expect I'll be coming back to it as my skills improve. The depiction of mountain ranges in particular is less than optimal, but I'm very happy with the water effects. They're based on techniques described in tutorials here on the site.

Nice! I like it. I'm naturally predisposed towards the map since it has a Lovecraft theme. Have some rep and welcome to the boards, Propnomicon. Nice username BTW.

Thank you for the very kind words.

I'm lucky that the nature of the source material for the map makes a relatively plain presentation believable. Now that I'm comfortable with doing the layout in Illustrator I think switching over to PS for the engraved texture effects will add a lot to further projects. The amount of detail that early 20th century printing technology could display is really amazing.

That is a beautiful map - have some Rep! I've saved a copy just in case I get around to running a Shadows of Cthulhu True20 game one of these days.
