Wip Eichenstein - hand-drawn city map

It's been ages since I last posted here. I had some serious creative block and a lot of stress at work since the start of the pandemic. I always struggle with perfectionism, with overthinking everything and aside from that with a fear of writing in English (so I also stopped commenting on other maps).
But I really want to get back into mapmaking and worldbuilding - and hopefully having fun without overthinking every little aspect. So I decided to rework an old map to minimize the fear of the "blank page".

This was the original map from around 2002:

I just wanted to draw the same map in a different style but instead I also changed the layout of the map. Eichenstein is a city that developed from an old hillfort and the new version of the map is heavily inspired by the Heuneburg:

Over the Easter weekend I finished the inking:

I will now start to colour it with coloured pencils.
Any comments will be welcome, although it might be too late to incorporate them in this map.

Great to see you making your way back. I totally understand that "over thinking" thing. I have the same problem on a regular basis. Your rework of this map is looking good so far.

It can be really annoying. Sometimes I'm questioning every decision I'm making (Does this house look good? Does it make sense to have a river over there? Why do these hills look so strange? and so on ...).

The layout has a really nice flow to it. And you can definitely get a sense of the old hillfort in the layout.
My new Deviant-thing. I finally caved.

Thanks, I'm glad you like the map!

I worked a little bit on the colouring this afternoon on my balcony, but so far I'm not so sure about it.
(Next time I'll post a better picture)

Yesterday I finished the colouring. There are some parts I need to retouch and perhaps I'll add a legend.
