Great start ladiestorm I love those rocks.
I've finished up my lite mapping challenge, and decided to join this challenge. I thought about what I wanted to make, and decided, since most people need battlemaps, that this is what I would make, by recreating an earlier battle map that my husband asked me for. He called it the kill box... I'm changing the name a bit.
This battle map will be great for any time a DM has players passing through mountain ranges. It's perfect for setting up an ambush. Which is why I call it the Kill Zone. Here is what I have so far:

I know it's not much right now... but by the time I'm done with it... hopefully, it will be great!

lol... once everything is in perspective, it is supposed to look like a cliff side. Believe it or not, those rocks are the standard dd3 rocks. It's been a while since I've used standard dd3 symbols... so that's what I'm doing for this battle map... using as much of the standard symbols and fills from the cc3+/dd3 program as possible.
Now there are somethings I have to compensate for, such as the riverbed, and the bare tree... dd3 doesn't have those... but what I'm doing is a blend of dd3/ dundjinni archives.

Nice! It's really coming together. I love your textures. That's definitely something I struggle with a lot.
Looking forward to seeing the finished piece!
This is looking really nice! The tree seems a bit off to me but I love the reflections on the water.
@SarahEvelynArt - thanks! The textures I'm using are from campaign cartographer's Dungeon Designer 3 (the program I use to map with), and the Dundjinni Archives.
@ashnidae - I understand your concern about the tree. But, as I stated earlier, this is a recreation of a previous battle map I made... when I was still new to using cc3+, and didn't really know what I was doing. And the water you are talking about... isn't actually water. It's a dry riverbed, with puddles of water in it. But what that means, is I need to fix my water puddles in the river bed! I'm not finished with the dry riverbed, though. I need to add some plants to it, I just haven't gotten that far yet. I'm still tweaking this.

I'm still working on my kill zone, and I have the next cliff level. I've also added weeds to my riverbed. The tree may be dead, and the river is drying up, but there is still a little life there. For now.

This battle map is coming along a lot quicker than I thought it would. In fact, I'm actually almost done... I just need to tweak it here and there with some more details. I will admit I'm embellishing a bit more than the original battle map… but then again, isn't that to be expected?

It looks great!
Ambush maps are always useful, for the DM, but not for the players.
