advice on colored pencils for hand drawn maps

hello all
im getting back into map making again. doing some hand drawn maps, i wanna purchase a set of 72 colored pencils but their seems to be many brands and types. i am basically just looking for any advice you can give me.

Faber Castell are great. They have great artist pencils, both regular ones as well as aquarel pencils.

from what ive read their are 3 types of colored pencils based on the binding solution that holds the pigment together. wax, oil or gum/water based pencils. any preference to those three types? their might even be more but i don't know them.
