Aug / Sept 2016 Lite Challenge: Amphitheatre of Pompeii

Thought I'd try and do the Amphitheatre of Pempeii, It is the oldest standing arena built from stone, and is thought to have set the basis for the Colosseum.

Very early days, thought I'd post now just to show a few more progress steps.

That's going to be cool! I went to Pompeii in 1969 but I only vaguely remember the Amphitheatre.

Cool one, look forward to it, like the front view too.

Added colour to the elevation. It's made with a mix of some beautiful blue stone and a more yellowy stone. And then the odd bit of brick on some of the arches.

It's a kind of unravelled elevation, took me forever to get the arches right, but the linework looks a bit rubbishy. Might have to come back to that.

So I re-drew the arena with finer linework, and added a bit of colour to the stone and drew some shadows on.

I've got some space to fill, so I'm thinking of doing a nice big detail of part of the building, I don't think that bottom view really does justice to the stonework.

So... I've drawn the outline for the detail at the side of the image, and added some initial colour to the map.

The bricks on the inner arch are really strange, they don't stay parallel to the arch where they meet the wall. It's as accurate as I can get it anyway.
