Looking good so far. I think you'd have to take the question up with Diamond though. Nice to see you back and working on another piece Carbus.

Hey guys! More then one year without mapping, so my cartographer itch kicked in. I really like this month's theme, so I decided to give it a shot. MY only concern and even a question, is it okay to use a heightmap (B&W) to differentiate the heights of the terrain? This kinda creates some new colors. So if you guys could advise me on that, here is the map I've began with: The idea is to map a region of Snow Dwarves, that love to sail on those harsh and dangerous waters filled with monsters, icebergs and etc.
Hope you guys like it. Cheers.

Yes, viking dwarves! That's a very nice start Carbus. Diamond mentioned in the challenge thread: "using black and white to modify existing colors would be okay", so having a heightmap as a base shouldn't be a problem.

Ok! Im officially crazy, but I was not actually digging the height map thing, I love the style but I just cant make it. So I decided to go back to a style Im more comfortable with. The black square is my goal in case Im not able to finish the hole map, so Ill try to first complete the map inside it, and then if I have the time proceed to finish the rest.

It's looking good Carbus, I liked the first version, but this is even better, you're hand drawn mountains are really nice.
The detailing on those mountains, forests and coastlines is suburb! Definitely feels like a winter landscape. Can't wait to see the finished piece.

Well, I've got to say, I like your 'traditional' version much better!
Your second version is looking great! Good start!

Those new mountains look fantastic! Watching this one with interest.
