*** August 2015 Challenge: Create a Tutorial ***

This month's Challenge idea comes to us courtesy of Azelor.

It would be a bit unusual for a challenge but I think it could be very interesting and as far as I can remember, it has never been done. Obviously, it doesn't need to be a proper map but it has to be related to cartography. It could be a tutorial to make map borders, a technique to make mountains, updating the old tutorial made by Ascension because it's not working properly with the newest version of Gimp... or anything that could help in making maps.

Obviously, you can't just trot out a tutorial you've done in the past, but as Azelor suggests, you could update/streamline/modify an older tutorial. If you choose to do that, please follow this simple rule:

Post a link to the original tutorial you're updating in your first post. This is so voters, if so inclined, can read through both versions and see if they think the changes made were needed and useful enough to justify the update, and a vote.

Make sure you use this tag before each WIP picture: ###Latest WIP###

This contest will end on or around September 1st, and the winner will receive a magnificent, nay, a GLORIOUS golden compass! (And probably some rep too.)

Yeah, I hadn't even considered that (about the WIP). Well, hopefully we have some stuff pop up here at the end of the month. I'll try to come up with something if I can. Haven't been feeling very creative lately...

Would we be able to create a brand new tutorial using material we've made before the contest? Like giving a tutorial on how we use our techniques using one of our maps as an example?

I've been meaning to write stuff on tectonics, but have postponed it a few times, being constrained with lack of hobby time. This might be the occasion, actually.. I hope.
