Map Guy Gavriel Kay maps (comission)

Few years ago, I made map of Jad’s world from books series by Guy Gavriel Kay. Just for fun, here that old thread.
In 2021 Russian publisher Fanzon have started new personal book series of the author and invited me to investigate that old map in official way. So I’ve used original English maps and history analogy for my interpretation of the map for Lions of Al-Rassan, and Guy Gavriel Kay himself kindly corrected me through the publisher. I didn't have enough time for color, so map is mostly bw. Year later for All the Seas of the World I rewatched some elements which looks not perfectly on printed book and finished coloring.

Each book also contains bw map of Al-Rassan and Batiara:

Tools: mostly Adobe Illustrator (fully vector) + paper texture + some color editing in Photoshop.

    Hope you like it!

    Nice work!

What was the canvas size for the one that went into the novel itself?

    Thanks!
300×435 mm. It's not important for printing, but my vector presets (brushes and patterns) are better suited for a larger canvas.

Ooh, I LOVE that colour version! The texturing is incredible, and the whole map really has a very period-authentic vibe. One of my favourites in a while, definitely one for the inspiration folder. Amazing!

Beautiful maps! I love GGK's work. He's one of my favourite authors, so it's always a treat to see his world brought to life. Both colour and black and white maps are gorgeous! Really inspiring work.
