Very cool, I was considering doing something with currents on my errr current map but I'm not sure if that is the route I will go or not so watching this one closely!
I started pondering on making a detailed map of oceanic current a while ago (April 2019 to be exact). The goal is to end up with something like this. I haven't dived far into this idea yet but I decided to post it here in the meantime.
I will be using the Guild world project as the base map.
So far, I mapped the main currents in a crude manner. It has no color for the moment as temperatures are not my priority.

Started mapping the detailed version of the currents. I also added a few ocean names. Still, several oceans do not have a name yet.

Oceans of the world, I added the Austral sea to fill the huge nameless ocean at the South Pole. Well, it does have a few regional names.
This is more for curiosity as naming oceans can become very subjective

Update:

It seemed to look great until I decided to check on reality:
I did this map using this
It shows the currents around the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbeans. The colours are just there to indicate if the movement is clockwise of counterclockwise.

Either reality is wrong (once again), or I'm way off.

Are you doing this to influence biome placement or just to explore detailed currents?
I think most current-maps look at scales a bit less nuanced than the detailed version on the nullschool site.
