Default June 2020 Challenge: The River of Dreams

In the middle of the night
I go walking in my sleep
    From the mountains of faith
    To a river so deep
I must be looking for something
    Something sacred I lost
    But the river is wide
And it's too hard to cross

So... this is what my brain decided was the only logical map for this challenge (also interestingly what I've thought of doing before after seeing the map a song challenge). There are a few 'locations' mentioned in the song so enough of an excuse to make a map as any. As for my actual dreams - they're usually so abstract and I can remember so little I'm not sure if I could make a map.

I also recently stumbled upon this gorgeous map by Milan Vasek after the CGtwitter posted it and this was a great excuse to try something inspired by it and try something a little more 'painterly'. So here we go:

There are only so many places mentioned hence the sparse labels. Fairly sure this is done but might have another look at it in a week or so

This is beautiful! You nailed the painterly effect. Love that the font goes with the brush you’re using. Just curious, did you use any shading layers or did you go full painter mode and picked the colours by hand?

First off, glad to see an entry this month, sounds like it's a busy month for a lot of folks. And what an entry at that! The rendering on this is beautiful! Love the bright, sunny colors. This is great work.

Ahh, thanks for all the kind comments guys. Jo you have good music taste
And DimensionDoor I did a shading layer and then most of the colours on a 'colour burn' layer over the top. Not sure if it was the most effective way so will have to try some more experiments in this style

Nice! I really like the dry-brush looking edges too. I noticed on the bottom right corner there's a little bit where a sharp edge happens, like it got cut off. I only noticed because I really enjoy your textures so I zoom right in and revel in the brush work. It's beautiful!

    Cheers,
