This is exact the type of mountains I was looking for.

Unfortunately I have no access to copy.com, where the files were saved.

Any chance anyone have a copy saved somewhere???

    Regards

The idea is to use a distance transform (sometime called EDT or EDM or shapeburst) on a shape to get the increasing height from the edge. Then you can add noise on top of that to get it a little rougher. In the first image below (done in photoshop), I selected the area of interest, put it on a new layer, and added a shape burst gradient stroke effect as described at https://graphicdesign.stackexchange....haped-gradient to get the basic effect. Then I added some noise via render clouds on a layer set to multiply and finally added a lighting effect to the whole thing to get the appearance of lighting.

For the second image, I used Wilbur to load a mask made from the above image, and then used the Filter>>Fill>>Mound tool.

A long time ago When I thought out how to make mountains, I did a little differently. The mountains are also realistic. I like your mountains very much too
