    Default Blue Marble

haven't seen it anywhere else here.

    Blue Marble

A 'Blue Marble' image of the Earth taken from the VIIRS instrument aboard NASA's most recently launched Earth-observing satellite - Suomi NPP. This composite image uses a number of swaths of the Earth's surface taken on January 4, 2012. The NPP satellite was renamed 'Suomi NPP' on January 24, 2012 to honor the late Verner E. Suomi of the University of Wisconsin.

I have to say, the full size image (8000x8000) is so worth the download.

IT is stunning! Thanks! I wish there were a few other views of the Earth as well. Perhaps we'll see some updates in the actual Blue Marble project (whatever it's called!), it's been a few years.

What an astonishing image! It's amazing to look at all the details this map contains. I especially enjoyed seeing the effects of the ocean currents along the coastlines as well as finding the Grand Canyon. Also amazing is how little evidence of human civilization actually exists when viewed from this distance.
