I like it Azelor. What are working on that will utilize that?
I did several tests and was wondering if this looked like an old map, possibly from the Victorian Era?
Some details are missing (no labels) but so far, does it look believable?

I guess it's already a big improvement from this :

Nothing in particular, it's just a style that I tried to imitate for a contest a while back. But it did not turn so well.
I am no expert but definitely a step in the right direction. I think the canvas pattern / texture could use to be a little more evident.
"Aye The skies be clear , the seas be calm and the winds be with us .....
ARGH!! but the damn compass be broken!! "

More contrast so it show up better. Be subtle though .Adjust a little at a time till you get what you want.

I did some experiments to improve the contrast.

Still experimenting, maybe it's too rugged? It would fit the post apocalyptic style pretty well.
Actually I have 2 grunge layers. One covers the whole ocean and the other is just south of Ireland. There is another one for the other layers too...
I prefer the more random one but I might tone it down a bit.

I'm not sure if this is what you're going for, since it's an old-style map, but some of your towns aren't well positioned. Glasgow and Newcastle are too far south, and Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield need to be moved around a little. Dublin should be nearly opposite Liverpool. If you're basing your map off one that's a couple of hundred years old, I guess towns might be wrongly positioned, but if you'd like to be reasonably accurate by modern standards, you might want to take another look. (Sorry if this seems nit-picky, but I'm in Scotland and the incorrect position of Glasgow was the first thing I noticed!)
Overall, I like the grungy feel with the distressed font, and look forward to seeing what you do next.
Thanks for the info! My cities are based on another map I have. The map could be inexact but I placed them without verifying afterward.
Since the map is based around 1800, are there important cities that I should add ? Were all of these cities important at the time?
