Help Problem with animated brush in GIMP

    Hey y'all!

I'm working on a city map, and just picked up RobA's incredibly awesome animated city buildings brush. Unfortunately I'm having some trouble with it, namely in getting it to be the color I want. Essentially, in his original thread, there is an image demonstrating the brush's use. One of the options in that image is "stroked using the 'color with gradient' option," and that's what I want: to use this brush in a color of my choice. However, that's not working. In fact, I'm just going to illustrate exactly what's happening with a series of pictures.

When I use the brush normally:

    Map1.PNG

But I want to stroke, not merely brush. So I go to "Stroke Selection":

    Map2.PNG

    ...and the result is below:

    Map3.PNG

Anybody know what I'm doing wrong? As you can see, not only can I not figure out color, for some reason the size goes completely wonky when I emulate brush dynamics.

EDIT: I should add that, while I can certainly select and replace the color, I don't want to do that because I lose that cunning little border that the brush adds to the shapes. I very much like that.

things have changed a lot in the last 8 years
gimp 2.2/2.4 is not the same as gimp 2.8
the gimp has been almost completely rewritten from the ground up
a lot of menu options have been moved or removed and other tools cover them

somethings have been moved to using gegl and not gtk
the brush and path dialogs and the code behind it is 100% all new

all this means things that worked 8 years ago
    might not work today

    but
it dose work , just not fallowing guides from 8 years ago

on a new layer create your path
i make a line or use the image
    then select / to path
    then
    Select / ALL!!!

    then open the path tool
windows / dockable dialogs / path
r-click on the the path ( the highlighted one)
    and click on "stroke path"
and set it to use the paint brush

this is very VERY different from what it was 8 years ago

    you have "dynamic brush" checked
    uncheck it

This allows me to stroke a path--which I could already accomplish--but it doesn't seem to address the color issue?

EDIT: I should add that after some research I think it's not possible to use brushes / image pipes such as this in specific colors, which was my primary issue. I can stroke a path just fine, thought, so I'll be selecting and simply coloring over. Loses the border, but makes less work in the long run.

    as to color
the brushes are using the new GEGL api and not the old gtk api that this 8 year old animated brush uses

a lot changes in 8 years
that is 1.5 GENERATIONS in computer years
( 20 years is in people terms and 5 years is one generation in computers )
