Default Turning Photos into Tileable Fills/Textures

For awhile now I have been taking photo's of things that I think would make great realistic textures. Such as moss, bark, stone, etc

But I'm totally clueless how I would turn these into tileable fills or textures to us in my mapping.

Can anyone point me in the direction of such a tutorial? Thanks!

A tutorial by Redrobes [Award Winner] Tutorial on how to create seamless textures out of anything

A tutorial by RobA Creating and using seamless texture sets

Many other sites have good tutorials as well. Google is your friend. When you search, specify the graphics program you are using. (i.e. "GIMP seamless texture tutorials")
