Default Feb/Mar '20 Lite Challenge: Large Fighter, battlemap

Attempting to give the sci-fi battlemaps some love, as you mentioned they are frequently neglected.

A3 size and each square is an inch, a good size I think for RPG tabletop games.
I wanted the map to be quite closed in and claustrophobic. Not much room for a blaster in here, it may get very close quarters hand to hand.
You have the engine room, the mess hall, the cockpit and the communications / sensors room.
Plus 3 entry ways, 2 ramps and 1 docking hatch.

    WIP so far -

Looking nice so far! Reminds me to StarWars Ship forms, which I like really much.

Hmm, I thought using static lines would help gain a more sci-fi look. Not so, it still looks as whimsical as my fantasy maps. Not sure it's fitting with the sci-fi feel at all. Though it's good to go out of the comfort zone I guess. It has a nice look even if it's not quite grungy.

Yes I began trying to steer it away from the Millennium Falcon, I must have been subconsciously drawn to it. Their ship designs are so so good.

Welcome to the challenge TimetoDraw! Looking very good, I think it looks very SciFi/Spaceship not fantasy.

I stretched the ship a bit more so that the powercore sits within a square and has more space to move around. Plus some more colour to help distinguish the rooms and add a bit of interest.

Thanks, I'm beginning to like it more now I'm adding some detail.

Yeah, the extra detail adds a lot I think. Also I think you might be short a bunk or two.

good start to this one! having a ship type battle map could lend itself to so many scifi games!
Like a thief in the night
    she comes with no form
    yet tranquility proceeds
    the accursed storm...

I didn't like drawing these type of straight lines with the pen tool in Photoshop (I'm usually drawing freehand) so I took this to Illustrator to do the penwork. Then back in Photoshop to detail and paint.

Ha! You're right, I noticed this too. I was squeezing the ship to fit the page better. Now I've plenty of room to add some details.

Thank you, it may be a little simple but function over fashion, should allow mini's to easily move around a close quarters space

The straighter lines still look good but now there is almost no "Millenium Falcon" look-a-like to it.

Really like the newer design, nice job!

It's great to see a sci-fi map, it's a nice change from the fantasy medieval stuff.

    Keep up the good work
