Discuss Toril world map on a regular icosahedron (d20 dice)

    Hello Cartographers!

My first approach to cutting and gluing dice and globes.

I decided to start with an icosahedron. Definitely easier to cut and glue than a sphere.

Of course, at first I had to draw Toril on a geographic coordinate grid.

Then using G.Projector, I transformed this map into an icosahedral grid.

The only thing left to do was to print, cut and glue.

I will also try to glue some d4 dice.

    It's a lot of fun. I recommend

I'm going to try to make a little globe soon.

What did you use for source material on the world map?

"The Forgotten Realms Atlas" by Karen Wynn Fonstad, TSR 1990 plus info from Forgotten Realms Wiki. However, the maps on wiki are mostly inconsistent, so both the layout of the lands and their distribution on the planet is my vision based mostly on Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting.

Thanks. The use of Forgotten Realms Wiki things explains some of the overly-familiar artifacts. I really should have spent more time in the original unprojection of the map that went into the Forgotten Realms Interactive Atlas, but I didn't and now there is forevermore some handles where there should have been a nice little island or two...

I highly recommend this book The Forgotten Realms Atlas In my opinion, the best maps of Faerun are there.

Cool, if you want to try a Gores map in a globe then I uploaded my Gores creator utility.

Click on New Job and select Gores (which is also the default one).
