Default December 2015 Annual Challenge: The New World

I started this back in late June, but wanted to get most of the naming done (the longest part in any map, IMO) before I posted anything. Still a lot (a LOT) to go on this, but here's what I got so far.

This is a fantasy version of an early 19th century colonial new world - the two main powers are the Union (US analog) and New Szanza (Mexico analog), both of which are independent and are rivals, both with each other and with the powers of the Old World. Everyone is intent on exploring the west, especially the region called 'The Territories', thanks to the discovery of gold. The natives, while affected by disease just like in our world, have been able to avoid the very worst of it, thanks to the magic of this world, and are slowly starting to push back, forming proto-states and banding together against the settlers. War is on the horizon, but for now, a man's fortune and future is what he can grab with two hands and hold onto...

    Still to come:

    - The rest of the labeling, cities, and towns (mainly in the south)
    - Railroads
    - Color overlays for the countries
    - A cartouche
    - A fancy schmancy border
    - A sepia parchment overlay for the whole thing.

Totally awestruck! This project shows again, you are the undisputed grand maître of peninsulas and mediterranean like coastlines Diamond! I like the idea a lot. Can't wait to see it coming together.

Yep, i agree, absolutely perfect land-shapes and composition. You are the king of those (not only for peninsulae, imo). Very much looking forward to where this is going.
I'm wondering how this would look in color instead of b/w.

Thankee kindly, guys! E, there's going to be color. Mainly washed-out pastels, with a sepia parchment tone over the whole thing.

Fantastic start! I'm glad there's going to be a little colour too.

Well, another fan of you land shapes and political divisions here (as you already know )! An excellent map already, can't wait to see it colored.

All labeling done... I think. Whew, that was kind of exhausting.

Nice type, Adobe illustrator is so much easier to do text in than photoshop, do you use that?

Nitpicking here, but...These were the ones that jumped my eyes at first glance

What you think if you moved: Rockwood slightly to the right, St. Cordrey slightly to the left, Longwyll and Baldersen slightly up, Colmend slightly to the right, Sahkontei slightly down, Fox Valley slightly to the right, Pangliss slightly up, Still Valley slightly to the left, Kangee slightly to the left, Harelberge slightly down, Poinoit slightly up, Asson slightly to the right, Oasco slightly to the left, Ebenez slightly down, Coscareza slightly up, Truchas slightly to the left, Adarras slightly up, Razzamonde slightly to the left?!

    Oh...obvious awesome work!!!
