    Wip GW Tries Something New

This might become a properly named project at some point, but for now....

I've been wanting to get away from relying on Terragen, Wilbur, FTPro, and brushes/stamps/tubes for a while now. The big problem with that is that I don't have a tablet, and, to be honest, have never been comfortable trying to use them. Still, I would like to produce something that looks more hand drawn than what I've done in the past, and this is my attempt. Not a lot to show just yet as I am still working on techniques using a mouse, but I am not entirely unhappy with the way things look so far. Will be trying to work on this a little each day and, hopefully, post a weekly update. Slow going right now, but once I get a better handle on the technique, I am hoping things will go a bit faster.

Nice to see you trying a new path, GW

If I can offer one suggestion: I think your coastline is a tad too fractal. Might be you're already planning to change that, though.

Yes, very fractal. Just pulled a random chunk of coastal area out of FTPro. Some of the challenges give us specific shapes to work with, so want to be used to that as well as working on techniques, methods and mechanics of things.

So I haven't really been up to the task of doing an actual map just yet with all that has gone on in recent weeks, but I have been experimenting a bit and wanted to toss one of the results up here just to see what others think about it.

I kind of like the way these mountains look, but I can't say exactly why. For me, they kind of have an old, grainy photograph feel to them. Anyone else see something different?

I adore those mountains, the detail is so texturally satisfying.

    Thanks Adfor.

Still playing with this. Adjusted things so they would more easily lay over non-white backgrounds without looking odd, and worked in some better size and steepness options. Played with some foresty stuff too, but not entirely happy with the results just yet.
