Temple buried in ashes
Second attempt at drawing an old school dungeon map. Much better even if I need to straighten my walls.
Pen on grained paper from a Canson sketchpad (I love my pads !).

I really like this one, Thom. The style is very good. I also think that the slightly wonky walls enhances rather than detracts from the map.

I think it could use some darker blacks (easily fixable digitally).
It's just my personal preference though, the map works brilliantly as it is!
Ah - you've fixed itI love the fissures, and the spider's webs. It took me a while to work out what the statues were in that room on the bottom left, but now that I have they're delightful.
I can't make my mind up whether it would look better or worse with slightly finer hatching representing the rock/earth. In some ways the pattern you have made with those nice bold marks is really beautiful... yet in others the thickness of the stroke and that same boldness might distract from the finer details of the cave interior.
Again, however, a matter of taste, I suppose... and I'm quite willing to admit to being wrong! LOL
Nice - thinking back to the dark ages when I drew with a pencil, I seem to recall straight lines are achievable through the miracle of a ruler
Though wonky walls give it a charm it might otherwise lack!

@ THW : thanks a lot ! I've sketched one more like this and am planning a huge monastery in this style (but with walled cocaine-cross hatching).
@ onez : My scanner ain't that good, I'll play with the lights on the next one. And thank you !
@ Mouse : I see what you mean, the acute angles in the triangular room don't play well with the hatching, I should have given more room to those three statues, indeed. About the thickness of the hatching, I can try and switch to a 0.05 pen.
@ Robulous : what would be the fun in using a ruler ?And I guess you're right, the wonky walls will stay.
@ Fol2dol : The result is pretty good and it was fun to plan and to draw ! Que demande le peuple ?
