I'm not entirely sure what is going on the top here but hopefully it looks like a nice little plot of land I've created so far.

Nice start! Although I am not sure this was the intention, your map so far is really reminding me of a large Iron Age hill fort in the way the contours are placed. Look up images for 'Maiden Castle' and you should see what I mean!

Maiden castle was exactly what I was going for, well spotted!

It's a great looking hill for a castle!

Thanks Aeshnidae, we'll have to see if I can come up with something appropriate to go on top of it or not.

Update time! I got a bit stuck on what to add inside the walls but there is something I don't completely hate now.

I like it! I'd maybe add a road leading from the back of the castle to the eastern gate (what I'm assuming is the eastern gate - the one on the right). That would let the lord and lady sneak out of town if they don't want their whereabouts known.
