Default Map 24: The Hundred Celestial Cities

Since my immediate western neighbor is Tom's Far Cry Nepal/Tibet area, I thought I'd do a region of warring city-states that could complement it. They have a Chinese cultural flavor, but with the politics and mercenaries of Renaissance Italy.

I decided to go with an atlas-y style. Some cloud/bevel generated mountains, and rivers:

Are you going to do 100 actual cities?
    That'll be hell to label
I'll update that name change tomorrow.

Well, some of these guys have pretty big egos: a fortified mountain crag with 500 inhabitants might call itself a 'city'.

Oh my, you're not wasting any time, are you
By the time I wake up tomorrow, you'll be done!
    I like that land color.

One more update for tonight. I toned down the mountains quite a bit; I like the more subdued effect better, I think.

Going for a more toned-down approach overall, I guess.

Well, got about 60 cities named, only 40 to go!

Thanks to Abu Lafia once again for the banner templates.

"The Qi-Long Empire is but a whisper of its former self. Once the most powerful empire of the mid-continent, long centuries of war against the ghost-men of the Nameless God of the Dry Lands created a massive army the likes of which the world had never seen. When the Nameless God, for reasons of its own, ceased its invasions of the north, the armies of the Qi-Long breathed a sigh of relief, then fell to warring with each other. The Empire fractured, and everything north of the Dar-Zhong Jungles was lost. Now a decadent collection of noble houses ruled by a figurehead emperor, Qi-Long seeks to subvert its rivals through trade alliances and the judicious use of Wa Yei (landless mercenary bands). Steeped in sorcerous power during its long struggle against the Lord of the Dry Lands, Qi-Long is home to many orders of magi, monks, and illusionists."

This is looking Fantastic!. I love what you are doing with the banners. I feel like I am looking at my old video game Total War Shogun edition. Great stuff!

I think we're going to have to make an atlas out of all this once we're done.
