Wip May 2018 Challenge: Mahere&Vanua Post

    Hi !

I still don't know if I'll have time to finish properly this one, but I'll try anyway...

I was inspired by Diamond's last map, with altitude lines, and for a long time, now, I wanted to do some island map, caribean style (or pacific style..) anyway, I needed some sun and blue water.

So I'm trying to draw an archipelago and add some stuff, probably ships...

    Here's the first sketch :

Very nice coloring, and good use of elevation/altitude lines. I have not been able to master those.

Thanks ! I try to look at real maps to check about those lines... not easy to stay logic and try to do beautiful at the same time...

Meanwhile, I coud work on those islands, I think I'm pretty finished with it now.

Great work Jo. The shaded relief is really good.

That's really cool, Jo ! Lines, colors and shading are a total success !
If I could make a change, i would use a sharp edge for the sea and not a blurry one : as your islands are super clean and neat, it would be more consistent, I think. But you know I'm picky ^^'

I know what you mean, maybe it's because I hadn't completely finished with the sea... I wanted to "attach" the land to the sea (otherwise it just look like it's floating in the air), so I wanted to add altitude lines for the water, but I didn't want to change the sea color for every line becaus it looks too much as a marine chart. So tell me what you think of the latest WIP, I'd like to know if it goes in the way of your comment

I really love the new lines, they add a great texture to the sea, but it's not what I meant
I was talking about the blurry border where the sea meet the edge of the stamp. The blue/white encounter ^^
