Default Question about houses in villages

I've seen a couple of "roofs" in maps. Some divide it just by a line, others by a "y" shape, and others by a X.

Any tips on what im suppose to use?
Like, line for long houses, X for small, etc?

They represent different roof line styles. These are usually chosen by what type of climate [e.g. heavy snow loads mean a steeper roof pitch so the snow won't break the roof; drier areas often have flat roofs] and other factors like style preference [of an individual or what people in the area prefer or can build best] and what works best/makes sense to cover the building underneath.
